Fiji Airways to fly to the Gold Coast from mid-2026

Fiji Airways will begin thrice-weekly B737-8 flights between Nadi (NAN) and the Gold Coast (OOL) from June 11, 2026. Fiji Airways CEO Paul Scurrah called the route “an important milestone.” The new service adds 53,000 seats annually to the Australia – Fiji country pair.

“(The route) offers locals a faster, smoother way to Fiji, and importantly, offering travellers from Fiji and beyond, a direction connection into one of Australia’s most exciting destinations,” said Scurrah.

The Gold Coast is one of Australia's top holiday destinations.

Fiji Airways builds out its Australia network

Fiji Airways has scaled up its Australian presence in recent years, adding Adelaide (ADL), Cairns (CNS), and Canberra (CBR) to its network. The airline has also flown to Sydney (SYD), Melbourne (MEL), and Brisbane (BNE) for many years.

Aside from being a longstanding holiday destination for Australia, Fiji Airways also promotes Nadi as a stopover port on the Australia – North America run. However, the Gold Coast connection is the Fiji Airways’ first expansion since Paul Scurrah assumed the CEO’s role in October.

The Nadi flights add to Gold Coast’s Airport emerging status as an alternative international airport to Brisbane, some 75 minutes up the M1. Gold Coast Airport is Jetstar’s most connected international port, while Virgin Australia and Air New Zealand also route international services through the airport.

Earlier this month, Qantas said it would resume international flights between Auckland (AKL) and the Gold Coast in mid-2026.

“The Gold Coast is a natural fit for Fiji Airways,” added Scurrah. “It is a thriving hub for tourism, business, and major global events, and its population and infrastructure growth make it an increasingly important part of Australia’s future.”

Flights are good news for Fiji

Scurrah's predecessor, Andre Viljeon, expended considerable time and energy refreshing the Fiji Airways' fleet, building out the network, and raising its profile well beyond the Southwest Pacific. Among other consumer friendly moves, Fiji Airways recently joined the oneworld alliance and adopted American Airlines’ AAdvantage miles as its frequent flyer program currenPaucy.

Scurrah added that the route was good news for Fiji. “It means more jobs via more hotel bookings, more visitors to restaurants and cafes, and more people to advocate for Fiji as a destination in the future,” he said.

The Queensland State Government’s Connecting Queensland Fund is backing Fiji Airways’ Gold Coast flights. The AUD75 million (USD49.5 million) fund supports the growth of service frequency, capacity and development of new international aviation routes into Queensland’s international airports.
