APRIL 29, 2026: The National Airports Corporation (NAC) commence a major upgrade of the Mt Hagen Airport (HGU) runway, replacing the existing bituminous seal with a durable asphalt concrete overlay. The PGK39.4 million (USD9 million) investment, fully funded by NAC, will strengthen the runway pavement to accommodate the B737s and Air Niugini’s newly acquired A220s.

APRIL 29, 2026: A shortage of jet fuel is disrupting Air Kiribati’s scheduled operations, particularly around the Southern Islands and those flights operating from the airline’s Tabiteuea North Airport (TBF) base.

APRIL 29, 2026: Australia’s International Air Services Commission has approved an application from Qantas for another 0.5 units of capacity on the Australia – France country pair and an additional three weekly frequencies on the Australia – Italy country pair. Both approvals are valid for five years and are subject to certain conditions.

APRIL 28, 2026: The first two Hinterland Aviation pilots have received their Cessna 402 type rating ahead of delivery of the airline’s first SkyCourier passenger aircraft later this year.

APRIL 28, 2026: Solomon Airlines has appointed TK Aviation Service as its official passenger sales agent in China. TK Aviation Service will support passenger sales and market development for the carrier in China, working closely with local partners including China Southern Airlines to promote the Solomon Islands.

APRIL 28, 2026: A DHC-8-Q300 operated by Air New Zealand returned to Auckland Airport (AKL) on April 25 after the crew received indication of a hydraulic issue. The aircraft ZK-NFI (msn 671) was operating a passenger service to Gisborne (GIS). It returned to service on April 27.

APRIL 27, 2026: Australia has announced plans to build a 12,000 square metre parcel sorting facility at Hobart Airport (HBA). Opening in late 2027, it will provide direct airside access to the A321 freighters operated by Qantas Freight on behalf of the postal service.

APRIL 27, 2026: Moody's Ratings has affirmed Air New Zealand Limited's Baa1 issuer rating and senior unsecured debt rating and Baa1 senior unsecured medium-term note program rating. The baseline credit assessment of Baa3 was also affirmed. The ratings agency changed the outlook to negative from stable.

APRIL 27, 2026: Adelaide Airport saw record passenger numbers in March 2026, with 789,240 people passing through the terminal, a 6.6% increase on the previous year. International passenger numbers further increased, despite the absence of Emirates and Qatar Airways. The significant capacity increases in the past year resulted in 99,776 international passengers passing through the airport in March, a 26.5% increase on the year prior.

APRIL 27, 2026: Skytrans Australia jet ACMI fleet is down to a single A319-100 after VH-L7A (msn 01779) departed Australia for Croatia on April 24. The jet is going to Zagreb (ZAG) based Trade Air.
APRIL 27, 2026: Jetstar is taking delivery of its twenty fourth A321-200NX. The aircraft, VH-OSE (msn 13197) departed Toulouse (TLS) for Istanbul (IST) on April 24 and is due to arrive in Melbourne on April 27.
APRIL 27, 2026: Virgin Australia is returning a B737-800 to its lessor. VH-VUH (msn 34440) left Brisbane (BNE) bound for Marana (MZJ) on April 24. It is travelling via Nadi (NAN) and Honolulu (HNL). The aircraft was leased from Deucalion Aviation.
APRIL 17, 2026: Qantas is ferrying in its fifth A321-200XLR. The aircraft, VH-OGE (msn 12762) departed Hamburg (XFW) bound for Sydney (SYD) on April 16 and, at the time of publication, is at Bengaluru (BLR).
APRIL 13, 2026: Air Moana is ferrying in its fourth ATR72-600. The leased aircraft, F-OREV (msn 1553) departed Toulouse (QYF) on April 11, local time, for Papeete (PPT) and, at the time of publication is at Almaty (ALA)
APRIL 3, 2026: Virgin Australia’s third E190-E2 is ferrying to Australia over the Easter weekend. The aircraft, VH-E2C (msn 19020209), departed the Embrarer facility at Sao Jose dos Campos Airport (SJK) on April 1 and is expected to arrive in Perth (PER) on April 6. The aircraft will be operated by Virgin Australia Regional Airlines (VARA).
APRIL 2, 2026: Jetstar’s first refurbished B787-8 has returned to Australia. VH-VKK (msn 36237) ferried from Hong Kong (HKG) to Melbourne (MEL) on April 1/2. The aircraft is the first of eleven Jetstar B787-8s to undergo a cabin refurbishment.

APRIL 28, 2026: Emirates will resume its daily A380-800 Dubai (DXB) – Brisbane (BNE) round-trips on May 1 after suspending flights when the Iranian War started.

APRIL 24, 2026: Virgin Australia will suspend its twice-weekly Alice Springs (ASP) – Brisbane (BNE) round-trips on July 14 and its thrice weekly Adelaide (ADL) – Cairns (CNS) round-trips on August 1 as part of recently announced capacity cuts.
APRIL 24, 2026: Virgin Australia has shrunk the window it will operate its Sydney (SYD) – Darwin (DRW) round trips to between June 22 and October 25, 2026, instead of through to January 2027. The airline is also reducing frequencies on its year-round Melbourne (MEL) – Darwin round-trips from three to two per week from August 20.
APRIL 22, 2026: Qatar Airways will resume B777-300ER Doha (DOH) – Adelaide (ADL) – Auckland (AKL) round trips between June 16 and September 14. The airline ended its Adelaide – Auckland tag flights in August 2023.
APRIL 21, 2026: Qantas has decided to retain its fourth weekly B787-9 operated Sydney (SYD) – Vancouver (YVR) round-trip through to July 23, 2026, rather than ending it on May 6 as previously planned.
APRIL 21, 2026: Jetstar will not resume A320-200 operated Coolangatta/Gold Coast (OOL) – Darwin (DRW) round-trips on June 17 as previously planned, instead deferring the route’s restart until October 12.
