A damaged Qantas A380-800 remains on the ground at Los Angeles (LAX) despite the airline saying it would fly back to Australia late last week.
The aircraft, VH-OQC (msn 022) experienced a slat delamination while operating QF11 between Sydney (SYD) and Los Angeles on December 7, 2025. It was the jet’s first revenue flight after spending almost six years in storage at Victorville (VCV) and Abu Dhabi (AUH).
Following the incident, Qantas told Aero South Pacific that it expected the replacement slat part to be ferried to Los Angeles within the next 24 hours and for VH-OQC to return to Sydney on October 11 (US Pacific time).
As of December 18 (Australian time), VH-OQC remains at LAX.
Qantas did not respond to a request for comment.
