China Southern Airlines is significantly increasing its flights to Australia over the upcoming Southern Hemisphere summer.
As reported by AeroRoutes, the Guangzhou-based airline will boost flights to Sydney (SYD), Brisbane (BNE), Adelaide (ADL), and Perth (PER).
China Southern Airlines will operate 71 weekly flights between Guangzhou and Australia this summer compared to 55 over the 2024/25 summer.
The most recent data from the Australian Government’s Bureau of Infrastructure and Transport Research Economics (BITRE), covering May 2025, shows the airline carried 65,688 passengers on its Australia – China flights that month, along with 2,794 tonnes of freight. China Southern Airlines operated 145 flights in May. It is one of nine Chinese carriers flying to Australia.
China Southern’s thrice weekly B787-8 flights between Guangzhou and Adelaide will increase to four per week between December 15, 2025, and March 2, 2026.
Similarly, the airline’s three times per week B787-9 flights between Guangzhou and Perth will increase to four per week between December 14, 2025, and March 1, 2026.
China Southern’s daily A350-900 services between Guangzhou and Brisbane (BNE) will increase to double daily between December 14, 2025, and March 2, 2026. This change was previously noted in Aero South Pacific’s Route Briefs. The boost extra flights will result in the highest-ever frequency by the airline to Brisbane since starting operations there in 2010
“China Southern Airlines is pleased to expand our flight services in Brisbane, reaffirming our commitment to strengthening connectivity between Queensland and our global network via our Guangzhou hub,” said China Southern Regional General Manager Jason Sun.
Meanwhile, China Southern’s thrice daily flights between Guangzhou and Sydney will rise to four per day between December 13, 2025, and February 24, 2026. A B787-9 will operate the additional flight, which will depart Guangzhou just after midnight for a lunch time arrival at Sydney. The return flight will depart Sydney later in the afternoon for a same day late evening arrival in Guangzhou.
The airline is not increasing its thrice daily flights between Guangzhou and Melbourne (MEL). Similarly, it is leaving its three times per day flights to New Zealand unchanged.
