Beijing Capital Airlines (also known as Capital Airlines) is suspending two of its three Australian routes over the 2025 Australian winter.
As reported by AeroRoutes, Beijing Capital Airlines is pausing flights between Qingdao (TAO) and Melbourne (MEL) and Qingdao and Sydney (SYD) between July 1 and August 31, 2025. Its third Australian service between Hangzhou (HGH) and Melbourne will operate as normal over the winter.
Beijing Capital Airlines flies three times per week between Qingdao and Melbourne using either Airbus 330-200 or 330-300 equipment and three times per week between Qingdao and Sydney using 330-300s
The latest Australian Government statistics, covering December 2024, show Beijing Capital Airlines operated 40 roundtrips to Australia that month across its three routes. It carried 14,658 passengers that month but had 21,982 seats available, reflecting an average passenger load of 66.7%%. Beijing Capital Airlines is the only carrier on the three routes. The filing did not disclose the reason for the service suspensions.
The news will also disappoint Emirates-owned Dnata, which announced multi-year contracts earlier this week to provide catering services to HNA Group airlines, including Beijing Capital Airlines, on flights from Sydney and Melbourne Airports.
