Air New Zealand Deepens Codeshare with Lufthansa, Air India

Air New Zealand is expanding its codeshare arrangements with two Star Alliance partner airlines, Lufthansa and Air India.

In a March 28, 2025, letter to the US Department of Transportation, Arthur J. Molins, Lufthansa Group General Counsel for the Americas said Air New Zealand Limited would place its NZ code on Lufthansa operated flights between New York (JFK) and Frankfurt (FRA).

In turn, Lufthansa will place its LH code on Air New Zealand’s NZ1/2 services between Auckland (AKL) and New York JFK.

“The codeshare services described herein will begin no sooner than thirty days from the date of this letter,” Molins wrote.

Also starting on April 7, as reported by AeroRoutes, Air New Zealand and Air India plan to launch reciprocal codeshare partnership, covering service between India and New Zealand, via Australia.

Specifically, Air New Zealand will place its NZ code on Air India-operated flights between Delhi (DEL) and Melbourne (MEL), Delhi and Sydney (SYD), and Mumbai (BOM) and Melbourne.

Air India will place its AI code on Air New Zealand-operated flights between Auckland – Melbourne; Auckland – Sydney; Christchurch (CHC) – Melbourne; Christchurch – Sydney; Queenstown (ZQN) – Melbourne; Queenstown – Sydney; Wellington (WLG) – Melbourne; and Wellington - Sydney.
