Air China is reducing Melbourne flights this winter, scaling back frequencies and downsizing the aircraft operating the route.
As reported by AeroRoutes, between May 7 and October 24, 2025, Air China will cut the number of flights between Beijing Capital (PEK) and Melbourne (MEL) from four to three per week. The airline had planned to operate five flights per week over the winter.
The flights will operate on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays between May and October.
Additionally, Air China will swap the Airbus 350-900 currently serving the route for slightly smaller and older Airbus 330-300s. Air China’s 350-900s seat 312 passengers and have an average fleet age of 4.1 years, whereas the A330-300s seat 312 passengers and have an average fleet of 11 years.
Air China is the only airline operating on the Beijing Capital – Melbourne route.
